Project Description

Project Details

BCS were appointed to stop water flow near critical structures in the Lane Cove Tunnel in 2013 and 2014 The 3.6km twin tunnel motorway is located under Epping Road and links the M2 Motorway at North Ryde with the Gore Hill Freeway at Artarmon. The tunnel was completed in March 2007 for a contract value of $1.1 billion.

Motorway tunnels are rarely watertight and water flow can damage support structures for equipment, electrical substations and exhaust fans.

BCS used specialist injection techniques to waterproof behind shotcrete walls and the sandstone rock face. This approach stopped water flow. A specialist material was also used to prevent water entering a deluge pump control room that is critical for the safe operation of the tunnel.

BCS techniques and superior construction chemicals ensured the safety of the tunnel and its asset lifespan were maintained.
